Word of advice: Try using knives next time for it's better in close encounters.
Not really. Pistols are great in close quarters since they're small, light, easy to manipulate, and take little more than a twitch of the finger to shoot while a fatal knife lunge is going to take a whole-body motion. In a skeleton holster, you don't even need to draw the pistol to fire it, just hip-fire it like Han Solo shooting first. This is just one of those movie drama things where people make wildly elaborate motions, get within inches of the target for no good reason, and wait long enough to fire to let the other guy make seconds-long motions to disarm them without firing.

...You aren't that experienced with knives, are you? It takes little more than a flick of the wrist to kill someone, and it is usable from nearly any angle, as opposed to a gun which requires that the target be in front of the barrel.

There is such a thing as a pistol whip, or if you have a webley, a bayonet
