This version of Akagi Kai Ni is suitable for night battles.

Only if there's no Tsu around, her tiny slots would get wiped otherwise and she wouldn't be able to CVCI at night. Sara is still the superior CV(N) and cheaper. And her having 5 slots means little outside reppuu muling with the way both her kai-II and IIE distributed her planes. This event we also got an even more powerful Tsu.
the ironic thing is you generally field more planes to night battle simply by slapping the Yasen gear in regular Akagi's 5th slot than the dedicated NB form.
Yep, it's hilarious just how bad Kai IIE is despite the devs hyping her remodel as that of the flagship of the elite first cardiv. Elite my ass, not with those slots.

Night fighters belong in her first two slots and night-capable bomber in her third, which is her largest. Tsu can try and threaten the 40-slot as she usually does, but only heavy air raid nodes can threaten the night fighters' numbers.
It's just that Akagi K2E cannot sneak in another bomber to allow daytime cut-in without risking wipe (unlike Saratoga Mk.II) nor she can take advantage of post-cap critical damage bonus from placing bomber in first slot.
Indeed, her base K2 is sufficient for multi-roles if one can afford to use the fifth slot for the Night Personnel instead of something else. That said, Akagi K2E is still "incomplete" in a sense that she's still missing her Reppuu K2E variants (possibly rewards from completing EO) which may or may not be the final nails in her viability as CV(N).
