Wait... wtf? I never even knew he was sick! That's terrible... This was one of the most consistently charming and heartwarming works I've ever read. My heart goes out to his friends and family. I'm genuinely crushed...

What was he suffering from, anyway?

Likewise. This series was a real joy to read and translate. Above and beyond that, I suspect Megahiyo wasn't that old, which makes it more painful.

What was he suffering from, anyway?

The message doesn't specify, which is understandable.

In any case, post #3465865 was therefore the last of his Akagi series and it was never uploaded on NNS as usual like the other posts. Something might have happened afterwards; we can only speculate.

EDIT: Is it a Japanese norm to delay the announcement of a death until a few days later? Does it have to do with the private time the family spends during the immediate mourning period? Practically nobody here (or even his other fans) knew about Megahiyo's death until only five days later.

If it's one that he'd been battling for a year, that allowed him to draw until fairly recently and yet had a sudden passing... there's not a huge amount of diseases that do that to people.

He's wasn't, I bought the books off him at Comiket.

Entirely normal, the more devout basically hole up in their homes with 0 outside contact for a while.

Generally if they can wait, they will for privacy and to get things in order. If anyone else like a fan knows of someone's death they don't say anything until the announcement.

(which reminds me, there was a celebrity whose death was announced almost two years after his death, because the family wanted the privacy. A bit long even for Japan, but understandable)

How sad. I really enjoyed this series, and not just because the waifu was a recurring main character. It was always so cheerful and diabetes-inducing sweet to read (especially any segment with Taihou).

Rest well, Megahiyo. Yu will be missed.

    Rest in peace.

Artists, or people in general, they come and go. The times we encounter people can be brief... but even if for a small moment that person can cause a positive influence, then that's good, y'know? And it's sad, very sad, when they go.

    Again, Rest in Peace, Megahiyo.

I would suspect some form of aggressive cancer as the most likely thing to fit that pattern and timeframe. Regardless the reason, of course, it's always awful to lose someone so young.

Damn, this is bullshit that one of artist who draws adorable stories like this suddenly gone forever.

Why so many artists died so early? It is awful to hear that. I would hear he will recover from his pain rather than this passed away announcement.

Anyway, Rest in peace and thanks for your work that I can enjoy all the time.

I hope his brother will continue what he left after. Seriously.

After battling his illness for a year, Megahiyo passed away on June 9th. It was so sudden that I can scarcely believe it myself, but I think that Megahiyo was able to live a happy life thanks to all of your support. I am deeply grateful.
If in the hard times, the works of Megahiyo cheered you up even a little, I think that Megahiyo would have been happy too.
    Megahiyo's Older Brother
    Everyone, please take care.
    THANK YOU
    I am Megahiyo's older brother.
    Report
During his fight, he received many warm words and much encouragement. He always expressed his thanks towards all his fans, and even now, I remember his profile while he joyfully drew away. He said that because the world is full of so many hardships, he wanted to show a world that was bright and happy.
I'm limited as to what I can do, but I'm thinking that I want to hand out the finished works of Megahiyo to everyone at the various events.
