"Got" doesn't mean "goat". I believe "Gotland" is named after the Gothic people, but so is Götaland...
EDIT: My bad. Gotland is named for the Gutes and Götaland is named for the Geats. Both are theorized to have been subcultures of the Goths, which is the Germanic culture that greatly contributed to the fall of the Western Roman Empire.
