Was predicting these coming in today since this morning. Horrible tragedy. Its bad enough as it is but becomes so much more depressing when you realize this is the studio that have been bringing you cute AF anime and sweet anime waifus for decades. I saw the aerial photos of the studio and I question.......WHERE THE FUCK were the fire emergency escape routes? It was literally a closed off box. 😢

Fire escapes are designed for "oh crap there is a fire happening" type events. They are not designed for "I'm a gonna burn this place down and kill everyone who tries to escape" crazy murders.
From what's been rumored, the arsonist made attempts to seal off the escapes.
My understanding is they spread the gasoline inside the building before lighting it, and doused anyone who tried to escape in more gasoline. They also sealed off the doors leading in and out. All of them.

There are starting to be reports of the man in question not only sealing off the building exits by pouring and igniting gasoline fires around them, but also of attempts to douse actual people inside and light them on fire. Witnesses also reported hearing explosions inside the building, so a severe backdraft or ignition of a flammable source inside the building must have produced a worst case scenario that starved the people inside of oxygen almost immediately.
I hope this guy is punished to the fullest extent of the law. Prayers to the families of the victims, and may those who died find peace wherever their souls now reside.

I work in a shitty old building but it has ladders and stairs from any upper floors to the ground and large windows to escape from. It would take tremendous amount of planning to kill multiple people inside of it, before anyone discovering and or preventing the culprit from even starting a fire, should he be trying to cover all escape routes. If its true what I read in other comments that the guy was actually waiting at the scene and targeting people, throwing flammable liquids while trying to escape through the flames, then holy fucking shit, this is gruesome!

Also had knives, 40 liters of gasoline and set fire to the only escape route for a lot of staff members in the building. Also did it on a day where a meeting from another company was being held leaving security to be lax and the front doors open. Guy came very well prepared and planned to start knifing everyone if the fire didn't work.
Sounds like it may have only taken 2-3 minutes for the flames from the first floor to have rocketed up their main stairwell and the sides of the building to reach the 3rd floor once the fire was started. Of note 35 firetrucks were dispatched to the scene and it took nearly 5 hours for them to put out the blaze.
