    Mochi is a sweet rice cake that's basically 99% sugar, 1% rice, and it's on a heater, which puffs it up (it does look like a marshmallow a bit now that you mentioned it). It's traditionally eaten at new year in Japan, I think.

    Made with glutinous rice. Not necessarily sweet by default.

    I ate mochi yesterday. Had to add soy sauce for it to have any taste at all... Not that I don't like it, it was simply... tasteless...
