This is the command structure and available ship girls of the US Naval Forces at the start of Leyte Gulf

I've only heard of 3 of the men, and of those, only am familiar with MacArthur. The ship girls are more interesting.

That's some attention to detail here. Not many people remember the Asiatic Fleet existing or that the 7th Fleet was under the US Army's (MacArthur's) command rather than under Nimitz.

Atlanta and Houston by that point were long sunk, though.

Same for Houston representing her Cleveland class namesake?

I‘ve always wondered what Kinkaid told MacAuthur when the Battle off Samar was raging.

Also, fun fact for any who may not know, the commander of Taffy 3 was Rear Admiral Clifton Sprague, as opposed to the Taffy’s overall commander Rear Adm. T.L. Sprague.
