I wouldn't be surprised that Crayon Shin-chan is actually based from The Simpsons.

It's vice versa. The Simpsons has become very awful the last seasons, while Family Guy still sticks true to its very own formula. Skillful written comedy!? Just over the top situations resulting into something even stupider with no relation at all while being not the slightest bit funny. Just compare a really early Simpsons ep, which you can seriously consider a piece of masterful comedy, with one of the wacky new ones.
And yes, Shin-chan is hella stupid... =_=

i don't know about that. Family Guy didn't do very well in the last season if you ask me. Same goes for The Simpsons.

Time for me to get into the fight <3
    Jk but:
Simpsons used to make fun or make reference to a lot of social troubles or abuses... also there is always the stupid comedy into it

Family guys and american dad (same author) does the same mostly but it uses a lot of flashback and randomness but randomly throwing a punch to the society

All this shows use some randomness and simple comedy to throw a few punches to the society sometimes

Simpsons seasons have been shit lately
Family guy last season was Bad mostly too

in the end i like the old seasons for both shows more

The Simpsons had about 12 seasons of pure amazing to greatness. Then they had about 6 seasons where the quality dipped down and it went into a lull, not resembling the quality it had before. Mostly because most of the good writers and producers the show had before either left or were doing Futurama. The newer talent were mostly just mimicking the old series, but didn't have the same feeling (jokes went on too long, characters totally changed, etc). The Simpsons have made a comeback as of late since some of the past writers and Matt has taken a renewed interest in 'fixing' the series ever since the Movie. It isn't like it was season 3-12, but its getting much better.

Family Guy on the other hand started out purely as a show trying to push the envelope. But plots never meant to have a tie in to a meaning like a Simpsons episode, which 99% of the time, end with a message or moral or connection to the 'family'. The majority of Family Guy episodes end exactly as they began, with no resolution being made except that characters have resolved their dispute or made a transition by fighting or choosing to ignore whatever the entire episode was about and pretend everything that happened in the last 20 minutes didn't exist. This formula worked for a season or two and was good for a laugn for a while, but like the Simspons later episodes between seasons 13-17, the Family Guy humor becomes redundant and old quickly because it is the same 2-3 plots rehashed with new jokes and situations, and never a resolution.

I really don't know why the two are compared, except that they are on Fox.

You forgot: While The Simpsons' animation varies from crazy (early days) to lazy (latter days), Family Guy's animation has been atrocious throughout its entire run.

What? That's standard operating procedure for the majority of TV comedies, including Family Guy and the Simpsons.

Uh, no. First of all, there's multiple different formats for TV series, even sitcoms. A series such as The Jeffersons didn't follow the same formula as Sanford and Son. Nor did Frasier follow the same formula as Friends. And notice how my examples are a good parallel to how the Simpsons compare to Family Guy.

And the Simpsons most often followed one of three general formulas. But the one they most often followed was the simple three stage episodic plot which started off with some comedic side story that led into the main story and then ended with a 'third act' which had a moral or connection to the second act.

The majority of Family Guy episodes flow from scene to scene with no real flow, breaking into multiple random side plots, parodies or 'flashbacks' that have no connection to the main plot. This leads to the majority of the episodes having to end with a cop-out ending or a random fight scene.

PS- We can all agree Family Guy is a terrible show and that Seth McFarlane is a no-talent hack.

Why are you bashing great shows for thier minor faults? You'd have to be a lifeless sack to not get at least a few laughs out of family guy, the simpsons, or shin chan. I mean hell, in shin chan the rich girls bodyguard gives the dumb kid a lollipop covered in novacain... THAT'S AWESOME:P

Remember former President George Bush (the Senior) saying how america's families should be more like the Waltons than the Simpsons?

Well, I had hoped that in either the Family Guy or The Simpsons somebody did a parody of (now former) President George W. Bush making a speech of how america's families should be like more like the Simpson's than the Griffin's. Too bad it never happened.

    I love parodies.

    I love parodies.

The problem with President Bush's Comments was he didn't realize The Simpsons was a Sitcom that parodied other sitcom and all the characters basically did all the things you normally SHOULDN'T do in real life. Whereas most episodes ended with a moral or realistic plot point that tied the overly crazy and UNrealistic characters back to the real world and gave you a emotional attachment.

In other words, all he was seeing was a crazy dysfunctional family seemingly put there for the sake of comedy, but not looking at the end result.

In contrast, a lot of shows that came out following the Simpsons, such as South Park or even Family Guy, very rarely have that real world connection. And have absolutely no moral ties or sense of trying to connect to the viewer and WERE just shows trying to mostly be as abstract and random as possible to instill a laugh out of their audience. If President Bush was making his comment about shows like this (or even Married with Children or Sienfield or any shows around in his day), then it would have been more accurate.

Remove Family Guy from the list of good shows, then you're correct.

Dunno why the whole "Simpsons Vs. Family Guy" thing has come up in this thread, but let me add my two cents: the worst episode of The Simpsons (and the last couple seasons have been pretty bad) is still far better than the best episode of Family Guy.

I agree completely. Even the most asinine episode of the Simpsons has " heart " to it. Family Guy is usually just nonsense that while at times I admit made my past self laugh is still basically tripe.
