I remember watching a video on how vacuum cleaners never need to be this noisy and companies that make them keep the noise in because it gives the consumer the feeling that it works when they hear the noise.

My vacuum cleaner has 1400W, although I don't run it at full power. I think all of my power tools, I have quite a few of them, have less watts. I wear hearing protection when using those power tools, except for the cordless drill. I'd say the vacuum cleaner is very successful at reducing noise.
