    Pokemon Injury & Disease Reference

Usually I love to draw pokemon looking happy and healthy, but they're living things, so they must get hurt or sick sometimes, right? I tried to visualize what that might look like in these pictures.
The next four are examples of Premature Evolution.

    →Abnormal growth
    ↓Leaves on arms withered
    ↑Charmeleon with Charizard horns
Symptoms: On evolving into one form, some pokemon may take on the characteristics of the next form prematurely.
    ←Marill with Azumarill markings
Treatment: In most circumstances this will not affect the pokemon's everyday life and need not be treated.
    Gem Damage
Treatment: In most circumstances this will not affect the pokemon's everyday life and need not be treated.
    Botanical Irregularities
Notes: May disappear on its own once the pokemon evolves to its next form.
→Forehead gem cracked by exterior damage
    Rust
    Evolution Defects
Symptoms: Gems may get chipped, lose their color, or fall out. This can be caused by age, disease, or battle damage.
Notes: In some cases pokemon may have to retire from the battle scene if they can no longer use moves that depend on the gem.
Treatment: Processes to regrow the gem or transplant a new one do exist, but they are expensive. Most trainers choose to replace the old one with a prosthetic, or have it removed altogether.
↑Gem on the forehead has faded and lost its color Tail gem removed due to severe damage
Treatment: Rub down with medical anti-rust products. If rusting has become too severe, the affected area may have to be removed and re-plated.
Symptoms: Grass types can fall prey to various plant-based diseases, as well as damage from insects.
    ↗Rust spots on head
Treatment: Ideally, the affected area should be excised. Topical treatments are also available for when this is not possible. Take care not to irritate the skin of pokemon with more animal-like parts.
Symptoms: Rust forming on Steel types' metallic parts.
→Rust has spread and corroded metallic parts
Notes: Trainers should be thorough in treating rust so that it does not reoccur.
