There's a tradition in Japan, that unwanted tools should be broken to prevent them from becoming tsukumogami. From that point of view, Sanae's just doing a shrine maiden's duty.
...but doing that in front of an already-existing karakasa is just cruel. It'd be like seeing someone, and thinking "Hey, maybe we can be friends!" and then they get shot.
