A bit confused with this as I haven't looked into anything to do with OreImo in years is this some kind of new story focused on Kuroneko?

I would love such a story, Kuroneko was infinitely more interesting, amusing and cuter than Kirino ever was. I hated Kirino.

The kuroneko if volumes of the light novel just released recently.

And the recent manga chapters of Oreimo Kuroneko IF drew attention because they include cosplayers of Hololive members in the background.

Going to have to give those a read if I can find English translations though I remember very little of the original OreImo story, it hurt my brain so much.

I wish more of these harem series had some kind of "What If?" side stories that allow other characters to have their happy ending rather than being in the shadow of the predetermined main girl.

Those that I can recall off the top of my head are the Clannad Tomoyo and Kyou stories and Da Capo If focused on Kotori. A little different from those was Yosuga no Sora's save point like thing it had going on. The story would allow a character's story route to play out in full and then reset to an earlier point in the story.

To this day I am still bitter Kanon never had a bonus Nayuki "what if" episode and after reading Mitarahi Kousei's doujins during the years since then I also want such an episode for Akiko. Then again right now I really want to see Mitarashi's doujins animated.

The only one I'm familiar with is Bokuben. There's an ending for each of the girls, with alterations to events in the main storyline to make them happen.

Personally, I think some of them are better than others, but they're neat "what if" scenarios. Although I'm bitter that some characters didn't have routes of their own, I think if the series just kept going like that it would have gotten old really fast.
