Its a camera with one of those zoom lenses, or whatever it is called. A someone familiar with a camera would be able to clarify.

Yep, one of those extreme zoom lenses used for making "spy photograps" from long range.

I've also seen them in use in stadiums, to take pictures of actions going on in the field.

Why? This lense is rather burden to keep "fastest" title. And at close range they rather useless.

That look like one of Cannon's white Telephoto from the 400 to 1200mm range. those cost almost as much as a car
