So Reimu noticed the attack and cast a barrier, Meiling didn't notice anything and got burnt and Yuuka simply ignored there was an attack...

In my opinion, Shino's Reimu doesn't seem all that different from the canon version... just not as ruthless.

You're completely wrong. It's just that Meiling doesn't even need to protect herself against such a WEAK attack, or even wonder about it. proof is that she's still perfectly OK.

Well, we can be glad Reimu and Yuuka kinda enjoyed Meiling company though, and after all she took the blow well in the last panel!
