I know it's just how things go. If an artist stays at a project too long long, they start to lose interest in it. Ido's been doing his Kantai Collection comics for the better part of the last decade.
I don't expect that Ido's done with KanColle, exactly, but I don't think it's ever going to be his main focus again.
The Umamusume comic seems alright, but I'm not really interested in the game or horse racing, and I doubt that's going to change. I hope it pans out well for Ido, at least.

It is pretty impressive that it ultimately took a mobile game that was in development for 5 years and had god knows how much money poured into it to finally take down an old as fuck flash game from early 2010s whose original projected lifespan was less than a year.

The attitude of loyalists, salty over people leaving for the concurrence (AL, FGO, UmaMusu, Honkai and Genshin), and lashing out against TTKs tired of even E1 becoming harder to clear (because THOSE HAVE JOBS, you know?) is certainly not helping.

Nah, no one's saying anything about a fandom dying. When Kancolle first launched and surged in popularity, a large number of prominent Touhou fan artists jumped ship practically instantly to focus exclusively on the new fad. A lot of them even dropped major projects in the process, resulting in a long lasting bitterness towards Kancolle for a good portion of Touhou fans.
Happens every time there's a new waifu fad, it always manages to catch people by surprise despite happening all the time.
