If you're going to sleep behind a placard, it might be smart not to have the placard make it look like you want someone to call on you.
And if you're planning on actually participating in the class, it's probably best not to put up a placard at all. I'm also starting to think Clumsy is just generally inattentive and/or oblivious.

By the way, some teachers pretty much tend to ask those students who DON'T seem like they know the lesson. I remember people in my class bluffing as if they wanted to be called, and the teacher would ask somebody else. I also remember that the teacher occasionally called their bluff and they were in trouble. So it's like poker, you need to think one step ahead of the opponent/teacher.
