All Evas have that "bulge". At least it's not as prominent as an Ender's.

actually it makes sense for a orbital frame since the "bulge" is actually the cockpit as stupid as it sounds XD

I'm thinking it's an exhaust port.

And, well, the one in the orbital frame also serves as an escape pod, so it kinda makes sense, since it's kinda out of the way and is unlikely to be hit by opposing fire unless they are actually aiming for it, thus increasing the chances of survival for the pilot.

Doesn't make it look any less suggestive, though.
