Fun (-ish) story, both my parents are migrants/refugees from southern Vietnam born during the war (dad was born in 1957, mom 1968). After the war ended, my dad took a boat over to Canada to leave the communist regime but returned years later and met my mom in Vietnam, where they got married and my mom was able to move to Canada because of that marriage.
Went to a south Vietnamese festival over at Saigon park in Mississauga with my dad (and dog) last weekend, lots of south Vietnamese flags (yellow with red stripes instead of the northern and current red with a yellow star flag). Ate some food, read a bit about Saigon (now renamed Ho chi min city), and just had a good time.

How's life over there? Replying from Vietnam, by the way.
Canada's a pretty good place. Good quality of life, good access to education and healthcare, life is pretty good.
That's good to hear. Guess I really should gain dual citizenship (Vietnamese and Canadian). By the way, plan to visit the home country of your parents now that both Vietnams are reunified and we're now doing our best to recover from the war? Not to mention that we've been on good terms with the West lately, in addition to countries that are against the West (Russia, Iran, China, North Korea, etc.), as we manage to hold a neutral stance.
