If anyone thinks about tagging this with "death" just remember this little fact: A severed head is still conscious and able to see, hear and feel (if only for up to 1 minute).

Yeah, that would be true if your BLOOD WAS STILL FLOWING.

No, RiderFan's actually right. I don't know enough to verify the actual time span, but people can actually blink and look around for a very short period of time after decapitation. (Can't talk, of course, lacking access to lungs). This was noticed at least as far back as the French revolution. They did a lot of cuttin' heads in those days,

IIRC, the first time they actually tried timing how long the head responded, they got more or less 10 to 13 seconds.
Of course, I may be wrong.

I thought that the death tag was also used for implying death...? So if that is the case then this could/should be given the death tag.

If it is not happening in the picture, it should not be tagged as such. She isn't dead... Yet.

That sounds about right. At least, now that you mention it, that does sound a lot like the figure I'd heard.

Also, because I neglected to state the obvious before, this picture is messed up. Just sayin'.

The illustration of how the head was cut doesn't look believable... does the mouth bleed like that upon decapitation?

The blood looks like whipped cream colored red. There should be some bone/nerves protruding.

The fact the hair flows as if her head was plucked out doesn't make it believable. It depends on what was used to cut though...

I know it is just an illustration, but I just can't keep it to myself.

of course... that could be an involuntary response since i highly doubt anyone would be willing to cooperate with a test where they cut their head off... blinking hardly proves anything unless the test is very controlled...which it couldnt be

In ww2 nazis made "experiments" on others of course this is commonly known, but they did experiment on human heads and they did find out that decapitated people could live for an average of 15-20 seconds after decapitation occurred and could respond by movement of mouth, nose, or eyes.

But that'd be dead, not death. Death is what's happening in this picture, which makes the tag correct. It's not like she's gonna live happily ever after.

Death is an abstract noun. It can never be
drawn physically. When you see a dead body you would
call that 'situation' 'death' only because that (the dead thing & what has happened/ is happening etc) would 'remind' you of death, not because that(the dead body) is death itself.

It is the sort of the intentional violence(killing) exerted on the lady or purely the fact that the lady's head is cut off that makes us naturally presume what is happening in the picture as the lady dying that reminds us of death which falls under/derives from the category of death.

-EXP: a "maiden" is an unmarried "woman"

It is natural for us to recall 'woman'
when we hear the word 'maiden'-

Therefore, It is not the raw physical result but the nature of the intention/action taken & ambience of the current situation that makes us judge the nature of problems we perceive.

So... do I think of death when I see the picture?
    Hell yeah. she's dying.
    Do I like the picture?
    FUCK YEAH!

    Death -> dying? maybe?

I think people have said 'the head is still alive' since they started using axes that could usually make a clean cut. At least since the guillotine.

I meant death -> dying as a suggestion that someone that actually cares may want to make death alias to dying; because yes, it is abstract and difficult draw a picture of; unless we want to mean the character 'death' invented in Europe in the 14th century.
