By coincidence, I watched a Japanese cooking show on YouTube last night that makes me think I get the joke. (Cooking With Dog, if anyone's curious.) Apparently there's a "right" order in which to add new ingredients to sukiyaki, and udon or similar thick noodles are added only at the end. So the joke is, while Sakuya and Reimu were talking... everybody else ate all the good stuff.
