Isn't this like someone in North America saying they'd eat a fox? Looking into it it seems People in Japan don't typically eat tanuki.
I'm not sure why a fox in North America is equivalent to a tanuki in Japan, but regardless, thats_the_joke.gif. Much like "Paimon is emergency food", it's supposed to be horrifying, not just something you take as true.

Because both would just been seen as something bizarre because they aren’t typically eaten. People wouldn’t be appalled by someone eating these animals like they would a pet animal but that person would be viewed as weird and eccentric.
