Late reply, but for any future curiosity, falcon hoods are not particularly unpleasant. They aren't to manipulate or even force the bird to be docile, they are to keep it calm in potentially stressful situations, namely while being transported. A properly utilized hood is even something a raptor will come to associate positively, since the hood indicates it's soon going to be time to go on a little trip and do some hunting and exercise.
