and to add insult to injury, look at that pebble bouncing off her head..... she can't have a break.

Keep in mind danmaku isn't the same as martial arts. In a straight out fight, without Spellcard Rules, Meiling could probably kick Marisa or Reimu's ass, and possibly hold her own against Sakuya.

She probably could easily down Reimu, assuming Dragons aren't a Youkai, yeah.

Probably true. Then again, if not for the spell card rules, there's quite a few characters that could take down Reimu and Marisa. (Yuyuko is the best example of this... Manipulation of Life and Death? All she would have to do is decide "You're dead" to kill Reimu/Marisa...)
But what use are martial arts if nearly every single character can go long-range (even "physical" fighters like Sakuya and Youmu)? XD Akyuu once mentioned that Reimu IS the creator of the Spell Card system (blame it on her for not giving China a chance; but then again, with the presence of overpowered long-range fighters [like Flandre], it can't be helped). Marisa can do Master Spark, Reimu can reach insanely high power levels (physically and magically) were it not for her easygoing lifestyle, Sakuya can go "ZA WARUDO!!!", and Sanae can call on her goddesses, so she wouldn't need that mostly. Even if she's got the power over death, Yuyuko is rather cautious on using it (after all, this same power once drove her to commit suicide when she was still a human). And let's not forget her friendly, even airheaded, personality.

As 12.3 proves, they are indeed useful. Close the distance and those long-range techniques suck. Even Marisa's Master Spark can be interrupted from directly in front if you hit her before she can finish pulling out the Hakkero. Granted, Meiling's lack of effective long-distance hits is somewhat damaging, but her mid- and close-range games are top-notch if you use her right.

Meirin's not a dragon. The boast written on her star is no different from any martial artist's claim to be a particular sort of powerful beast.
Meirin is actually the weirdest youkai I've ever seen, because she has no apparent origin. She's not a particular species, such as vampires or oni, she wasn't a beast or object that became old enough, like a nekotmata or tokasa... Her "gimmick" is being Chinese and martial artist.
If she were the martial artist equivalent of Alice Margatroid -- a human that became a youkai through diligence and training -- that would make a great deal of sense. Or maybe she's the daughter of such youkai, as with Patchouli.

Regardless of Spell Card rules Marisa could just fly and launch danmaku and lasers and Reimu could just ascend to heaven to attack with impunity. If anything, Spell Card rules give China something vaguely resembling a chance against the real heavy hitters. In a real fight she's not even coming close to hitting Yuyuko or Yukari before she drops dead but with Spell Card rules she might land at least one lucky shot before getting pichuun'ed!.
If you mean a straight up fight with no special powers or magic, then, yeah, China owns everyone except Yuugi and Suika, but that's true of a lot of the cast (letting Suika or Yuugi grab you equals death unless you're immortal or can survive being ripped apart)!
There was a 4-koma with Youmu pointing out a lot of the Gensokyo gang are "dirty cheaters" with haxxed powers to compensate for when their fighting/danmaku skills are not enough.
Really, outside of the fighting games, learning martial arts for anyone in Gensokyo is pointless except maybe for the dodging/grazing practice (not that that seems to help Meiling much).

Actually, Meiling can use danmaku and according to Arisu's color(power) level thing, Meiling's danmaku being 7 colored will make her one of the strongest (even though Arisu herself isn't very strong lol.) and we have to note that Meiling is still a youkai and it's precisely because we don't know what Youkai she is and that she's very balanced as to not having any particular weakness that's what makes her strong. In anycase, we don't know anything really since this is all fan made stuff so your argument is invalid :D

Canonically, Meiling kicks almost everyones ass when they try to invade.
Marisa is a sneaky bitch, Reimu is... Reimu, and Yukari has gaps.
