I don't know if it's just down to it being translated into English, but the commentary is just flat out weird. Like, it feels like it's written by a young person who has no idea how the real world works, and just gets their info from political internet groups which are filled with people exactly like them.

Edit: I just clicked on the link and found out that "Er guizi" is a Chinese term for race traitors (specifically Korean and Taiwanese people who aided the Japanese in WW2). What this has to do with what's going on in Ukraine? I have no idea.

As usual every year, everyday another political-based themed art in danbooru.

If not aim against the Americans. It would be Chinese, or Germans, etc, etc, etc... A never ending cesspool of racial human hatred.

Now it's Russians just because this guy decided to invade Ukraine and doubt people know the full story. Both sides are using propaganda and it is likely they're just lying one way or another.

While some are pretty much in "ok" quality, this never leaves in good sort. Always attract all forms of toxic aggression.

Wonder when humanity will learn. Hopefully not on the day we nearly wipe ourselves out.

Its use on Chinese internet in modern time have expanded to refer to any ethnic Chinese who do not align their interest with Chinese government. See also the "relevant terms" section in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guizi

Not surprising. The Chinese government has been censoring anything that doesn't follow the Russian narrative of what is happening in Ukraine. Including banning the social media accounts of Chinese nationals who live in Ukraine who had been posting about the situation that didn't match up with the Russian narrative. Even if their government has been claiming to be neutral, they've been from the start propagandizing their population to back the Russian government's actions.

Chinese investors also quickly started throwing money into companies involved with trade with Russia after the Western sanctions were put in place, hoping to cash in big because as they viewed it Russia would have no choice but to trade through Chinese companies. From a business perspective trying to convince Chinese to buy up Russian products would be good business for those businesses and their investors. Although I don't think trade will benefit as well as the investors hope, as a lot of bigger Chinese companies (and their government) have been trying to avoid the ire of Western countries that have sanctioned Russia, since trade with them is worth a massive amount more than Russian trade with China at this time.

That was never the case, and this artist is Chinese, so any imaginary "non-eastern" rule that people come up with whenever they see content that makes them butthurt would still not apply to this post.

Yup, not exactly surprising given how closely aligned Chinese and Russian long term political interests are and how increasingly militant China's attitude has grown in recent years. The mid-21st century is most likely going to be dominated by an open Sino-American cold war with Russia and the EU as part of their respective networks of client states and allies. Turns out that the end of history-period's ideas about democratization through economic liberalization and how muh international trade would stop conflicts from happening were just foolish delusions, which should had been pretty obvious for everyone: people before WW1 used to claim that a major European war would be impossible due to various close economic links between countries like Germany, UK, and France and we all know how that ended up.

Yes... it could mean anything, but, um, you know, the Wolfsangel was an exstremist symbol in Russia recently... until the war started. Not taking into account our flag of Vlasov, Putin's favourite fascism-philosopher, 'ex'-terrorist Kadyrov, and, well, Putin's anticommunism, his adoration of Yeltsin, russian oligarchism, antidemocratism and outright mockery of the russian people.

So, yeah, it may not be swastika. But it's just a symbol, not the real ideology of authorities.

Support? Look at the score. As they say about the freedom of speech and art -- "no one is obliged to help any speakers publish their views, and no one is required to listen to, agree with, or acknowledge the speaker or the speaker's views".

Yes, some people may have terrible and frightening views, like Hitler. But Hitler was a pretty decent artist himself. However, Hitler himself did not support such freedoms.

We can argue about that, but this is actively supporting genocide, i.e. something that is actively harming people and this serves as propaganda.
I dare say it's a bit different than simply posting guro art.

I wonder. The West has mostly been using Nazi Germany as the playbook for Russian actions and the Russians have been doing the same towards Ukraine, though they tend to gloss over what the Nazi actually were outside of being anti-Russian. What if the actions of Russia in Ukraine were reframed in a way the Chinese would see as unforgivable? Reframe the atrocities under things done by the Imperial Japanese Army. Stuff like the Rape of Nanjing. All those horrible things the Japanese Army did to China and other Asian peoples during the 2nd Sino-Japanese War and World War II. Things the Chinese will never forget nor forgive.

What happens if that narrative gets pushed instead of Nazis? Nazis aren't important to China. The stuff the IJA did was.

I don't want to condone banning images based on the content, even if I find it personally despicable. It makes no sense for us to say that this should not be allowed, but something that would actually get you in trouble with the law in the wrong country like post #4585662 is fine.

In any case, I agree that advocacy for actual genocide of real people is completely different from things like drawn bestiality or guro, but I don't think our hosting of this content means we're supporting it. Everyone's free to look at this piece and draw their own conclusions, and it's pretty easy to realize that whoever drew this has their brain filled with so much propaganda that there's probably not much room for independent thought in their head anymore.

I'm pretty sure the average Chinese citizen has no idea what Japan did to China during WWII, because that would require portraying the Republic of China as a victim of atrocities, contrary to official CCP propaganda.

So is it more of an archives like approach to these images? I assume unless it is grossly offensive to an extreme degree or poorly drawn, it should be fine to upload as long as the necessary tags and pools are attributed to it.

No, they know it's very useful to have external enemies for the populace to hate. Plus the CCP did fight the Japanese, in like a single battle. However the best lies are the ones with a bit of truth, so they just ignore their lack of engagement and make it seem like they were the saviors of China.

You would get in trouble when you're supporting regimes that are doing a genocide. There's a reason why such media who supports such regimes is getting in legal trouble and gets banned, see RT channels all over the place. Comparable to this image? Not sure, maybe not even close.
In other words: I would simply say that guro is a work of fiction, or art. The question is whether or not this image here also needs protection because it might be a work of fiction, or art. Because I really wouldn't be so sure about that as there's a border you can cross in that regard.

Is that given with this specific image here? Perhaps it is, perhaps it's not. I personally find this image here extremely tasteless (to put it in the most positive way).

Outright banning foreign propaganda is extremely short sighted in my opinion. People will still likely come across it through more unofficial channels, and so they'll be unlikely to know it's propaganda. However it comes from something like RT it would clearly be Russian propaganda and that makes it significantly easier to dismiss. Plus it's always nice to know how they're spinning things.

I'm also just amazed that the Azov guys actually exist. Their nation's president is Jewish and the Nazis viewed the Slavs on about the same level as Jews. I really want to know the mental gymnastics they're using to cope with this; they're some serious Looney Tunes tier characters in this conflict.

You’re absolutely right. However, there are people who are in political circles on the internet (be it left-wing or right-wing) that like anime, and as a result they'll use anime as a way of expressing their opinions — just like the post above.

Because of this, it’s pretty much inevitable that you'll get a political discussion come up from time to time. It sucks I know, but, sadly, that’s the way it is.

Thing is Chinese government control the narrative and information, due to the technical barrier imposed by Chinese government against information circulation around the entire society, turning it into an artificial echo chamber of only opinions that they want. It is only possible to re-frame the narrative when your narrative can reach people there. Which is what Western countries did in Germany and Japan after defeating them in WWII and get to dissolve their original government and take over the entire governing system. Anything less than that wouldn't allow the narrative to be reframed.

It should also be noted that, the modern focus among Chinese people on the World War II Chinese theater is also a result of narrative reframing. There were barely any discussion/promotion/researches about losses and war crime done by Japan in China, until the time of roughly after Tiananmen incident when they need such narrative. Mao famously thanked Japanese government officials in person for the Japanese aggression which he see it as enabling the communist party to take over the power of reigning China.

I'm also just amazed that the Azov guys actually exist. Their nation's president is Jewish and the Nazis viewed the Slavs on about the same level as Jews. I really want to know the mental gymnastics they're using to cope with this; they're some serious Looney Tunes tier characters in this conflict.

The thing about politics is that it's an absolute mess; you'll get people who share similar beliefs but will still each other because of one small difference.

Looking at these Azov guys, they do share some beliefs with the nazis: they believe in white supremacy and have reportedly attacked migrants as well as people from the roma and LGBT communities. In an article I remember reading in the Guardian from 2014, one of their correspondents spoke with a member from the battalion and he called Putin a jew and believed that the holocaust didn’t happen. But funnily enough, in the same article, it stated that there was a Russian volunteer from St. Petersburg fighting amongst their ranks.

I'm fairly sure they're aware Zelenskyy is jewish, but my guess is they’re either just ignoring out of convenience because he's Ukrainian and that consider the Russians to be a bigger threat, or that they consider him a "good jew" (i.e. he's not apart of the jewish conspiracy to take over the world). However, that doesn't mean they don’t have qualms with their own government, but because Russia is invading their country they're focusing on that more. In the Guardian article I read, the guy they interviewed also said that after they've finished fighting the Russians they'll turn they're heads towards Kyiv.

The government here in China is censoring every news from abroad.Such as yesterday, the official media claimed that the USA had 1.3 million daily new Covid-19 cases on 4th April(20k in fact),according to a mistake report.

I have to use a VPN to visit Danbooru, which may usually be thought of a Sockpuppet.

While politics is usually a mess of coalitions I just find them particularly interesting given the situation. (It's kinda like the alliance between Islam and the LGBT+ community in western nations) The whole white supremacy thing kinda holds, but my amazement comes from their using Nazi symbology despite the fact the Nazis themselves would have viewed them as literal subhumans. To the Putin being Jewish thing it seems like a massive cope since there's basically nothing to suggest he's Jewish. I would think they would have joined the Russians as fellow slavs since they're hostile towards the West which includes Israel and to overthrow a known Jew (and that's usually still the big bad in basically every neo-nazi group) in their president. But I guess the Russians already have their own Nazis, in the Wagner Group or at least its leader, despite one of the reasons for the invasion is "denazification."

I think if would benefit us as a community if we have a policy on images/commentaries expressing hate speech or fascist propaganda. It would be extremely tone-deaf for us when there is an actual genocide ongoing and we're explicitly condoning images endorsing and glorifying such atrocity. We become a complicit by inaction.

Impossible. The person who uploaded this doesn't own it and can't delete it any more than you can. Once an image has been uploaded, only users with approval permissions get to decide whether it belongs in the gallery.

I urge you all politely to remember there are no good or bad people/countries, and it's just that each country defends (or should defend) their own people and interests, just as the US has been doing for quite some time now.

If a person equates the people and the government, they need to think about how an ordinary person can affect their country's politics.
Because I know that the Russian government turns a blind eye on russian people most of the time and just starts their own things; something that interests only large businesses and powerful people. If I remember correctly... Vladimir Putin and his inner circle (literally them, not the russians) wrested Crimea from Ukraine and maintained Donbas war for 8 years, is it right? Or is this also NATO's fault? Who made NATO, America or "the West" an enemy in Russia? NATO or Vladimir Putin and his gang which only cares about Great Russia (yachts, cottages, lines in history)? Who raised the retirement age, who monetized healthcare, who defended the military conscription, who privatized public property for a couple of rubles, who raised taxes for everyone, but less for the rich, who rewrote the constitution for themselves? NATO or the country that defends their own people and interests?"

The real NATO's fault that it kept purblindly postponing its own extension despite the presence of those willing to join and the threats to them. And that NATO intervened in wars that people did not need (look at the Afghanistan. All state power in the country rested only on the army of NATO. The army was withdrawn and the former government collapsed. For whom was this war? For corrupted, weak, and plutocratic officials?).

Edit: I just clicked on the link and found out that "Er guizi" is a Chinese term for race traitors (specifically Korean and Taiwanese people who aided the Japanese in WW2). What this has to do with what's going on in Ukraine? I have no idea.

"Er Guizi" ≈ traitor or betrayer
A few months ago, when Russo-Ukrainian War escalated, mainstream opinion on Chinese social media was "What Russia did is not an invasion at all". They agreed that the "Ukraine government is Nazism", though I think they didn't ascertain the definition of "Nazism".
Ideology probably determined that Chinese net users took sides with Russia. And that makes sense, "You don't agree with Russia" equals "You resist Chinese mainstream ideology" equals "You are betraying China".

It depends on what business they mind and why superpower invades a country in the first place. I mean, Ukraine isn't that great country to live in and there was a ton of problems even before 2014 and that's why there was no big resistance to Russian/pro-Russian forces in 2014.

Too bad Russia was even worse and just wanted to take Ukrainian resources and oppress people, but it's easier to cope with it if your expectations failed once.
