I never completely trusted Touhou Wiki after the whole "Fox-Tanuki-Youkai laser" incident, so I tend to go out of my way to confirm their translations with my own eyes...
For example, "Midnight" here seems to be a bit of a misnomer, as this ritual, from what I can tell, apparently starts at 1:00am and ends at 3:00am...
Another source translated 「丑の刻」 as "two o'clock in the morning"...
anyway, What's here now is just a temporary placeholder while I gather info...
「狐狸妖怪レーザー」 was translated as "Fox-Tanuki Youkai Laser". They got the "laser" part correct; however, the "Fox-Tanuki Youkai" part was taken too literally. 狐狸妖怪 (koriyoukai) does literally mean "foxes and tanuki", but its more common meaning is "a sly fellow who does evil by stealth".
Had the translators been a bit more on the ball, the spellcard would have been more like "Wicked Sneak's Laser" or somesuch.
As it stands, the Japanese fans who could understand English saw the mistranslation and had a good laugh at the Western fans' expense.
