Considering the first (marked as "Volume 1") collection of these images was published only pretty recently and the fact that the prequel series is still ongoing, I think this is more the finale of the first arc, rather than an end for the series as a whole.
Perhaps Reszurre has a dark past herself? Maybe helping her uncover her memories would do far more harm than good?
There's another series involving her. I've avoided it at all costs, because it's the exact opposite of this series. No need to wonder what her memories are, if you have the stomach for it. I don't.

She could have been a pivotal figure in a past war and committed crimes, or instigated an ethnic cleansing to which Kusuriuri-san was involved.
Think about the worst thing a group of humans can do another human being that is effectively their slave, then multiply it by a factor of 5 and you might have rough idea of what she has experienced.

The point I was trying to make was she could have done horrifying things, and her current self might not be able to cope with the things she did before she was a slave. What kind of treatment would warrant such cruelty to an elf? Perhaps it was her punishment.
Honestly, I find that incredibly unlikely from a story perspective. Her backstory loses a chunk of its impact if that's the case (It's not nearly as heartrending if the subject is a war criminal rather than an innocent). Plus, considering how utterly her past experiences broke her as evidenced by the start of the story, she honestly does not need a second, hidden "dark past" to cause the return of her memories to be extremely traumatic.

Some people are just evil. Sometimes horrible things happen to people that don’t deserve it. It’s as simple as that.

See, that's the thing.
She deserved none of that punishment. That's the truly ugly backstory.
Helping another would not erase my own sins, but I realized, that in the face of her will to keep moving forward and her miraculous recovery, that I had actually been saved instead.
Looking back, I think this was the moment our relationship started to change into something slightly different from before.
