Remilia is definitely telling Meiling to stay put and guard the gate. It surprised me too – at first I thought I had missed something in the translation. What really confused me is her smile in the final panel.
Though based on what Meiling said, it seems Remilia herself is gonna participate anyway. If we assumed Meiling did enter, she'd just surrender or throw the fight when her time againts Remilia came up to give her the glory anyway.
When I first read it, I assumed Remilia wanted Meiling to kick ass at the tournament AND guard the gate... at the same time... 'cuz in Gensokyo, common sense is inapplicable
I'm thinking that Meiling wasn't think about participate the tournament even from the start. "If I do this, I can express my gratitude to the mistress and Miss Sakuya and make up for the trouble I cause them every day!" could be mean that Guarding the Gate while Remilia and Sakuya out from home...
If I think of this way, I should feel funny for Meiling But oddly, I feel sad. I wonder y?
