Uggggh. I'm tired of a relationship taking fucking forever because both sides can't be honest with each other. I wish this cliché would die a painful death already. It makes what should be a sweet, wholesome relationship painful and frustrating to read. Not to mention IRL, bad communication is usually a sign of a bad relationship.

Not being able to be honest has nothing to do with politeness. You're thinking of "not saying what everyone else is thinking cause it could be rude". One is a communication disorder while the other is actually being polite.
Bad communication is indeed a sign of a bad relationship, but bad communication skills is something totally different. You can still have a healthy relationship even with bad skills....it just means you need to understand your partner better so that you can figure out what they probably actually meant when they say something. If they were separated for 10 years or she just suddenly started acting this way in the span of a day/week/month then I feel sorry for "The guy I refuse to call by name". But 10 years together and you don't understand her? Nah, he would be equally to blame in that case (I.E. bad writing for the sake of forcing a cliche).

This is worse than being "too polite", she is reacting to his normal attempts to be loving and caring to her with aggressive violence or excessive negative reaction. Anyone, even an oni should know better basic social interactions than this. I have rarely seen Tsundere reach this level. At least she hasn't been physically abusive to him yet.

If they've been childhood friends and now in a relationship this whole time, he really should have educated himself on oni stuff (or general demon stuff) this entire time based on how their world is.
She also might have gone for it if he also asked in private rather than out in the open. (basically like pre-martial sex i suppose).

I feel like there are at least a few mangas out there that involve touching an oni girl's horns as like a romantic or lewd thing.
It's a nigh-omnipresent cliche that any obviously non-human parts of a demihuman's anatomy (horns, tails, wings, and so on) are always erogenous zones and "sensitive" for others to touch, regardless of the logical purpose that said anatomy would have.
It's pretty confusing for horns in particular, when you think about it - horns are supposed to be weapons, either against predators or (more commonly) in battles for dominance with others of the same kind, so you'd expect them to make pretty violent contact with other people's horns or skulls on a regular basis. It doesn't make much sense, then, for horns to be sensitive to the touch, given their function (I could be convinced to buy stimulating, perhaps, but that would imply that your culture would develop some pretty interesting opinions on the role of physical combat in relationships).

ALso based on the fact they're going to highschool as well as even in the past pages where even different races of Demons and Humans are going to kindergarten together.
