He probably picked on the tale that Sanae actually isnt originated from Gensokyou. Thus there must be some sorts of "immigration", something the gods are totally capable of.

Sanae is our "Modern tokyo girl"(made up the tokyo part). So theres lots of fun to be had with that backround info for doujin artist.

I think Sanae is remembering how it was before...she was pretty much an outcast, her only companions being Suwako and Kanako...and now, she has an actual family, with friends who don't worship her/regard her as a freaky curiosity.
