It's her appearance from before the start of the game, a year prior, I think. She was a very different person, much more serious and high-strung. She was the vice president of the former Abydos Student Council.

She's emulating the deceased president, we're just not sure by how much. Hoshino's current outfit and happy-go-lucky(on the surface) attitude/method of handling things are based on her at the very least. The whole sleepy thing may be as well since the Pres' name is presumably Yume. We do know it is at least partially a facade because she's out and about at night doing what she can for Abydos and that she's never truely asleep in official 4komas and 1komas but rather doing a sleeping with one eye open thing because her halo is still active. Chp-98 Kotatsu too strong, took down half of Abydos instantly.
