I don't think that you can reverse the process of a Karakasa becoming sentient. Once it is, I think you have to kill it to get rid of it. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I think Kogasa is fine. She observing them from a far. Don't forget, she's hiding so she could scare Byakuren. (Or anyone else for that matter. I'd also hug her anyway.)

It wouldn't. Don't know where he got that idea.

I think it's because she was forgotten for so long that she became a spirit with human form and giving her a hug (or any other show of affection) would make her happy thus making her disappear or turn back into a normal umbrella.
