Illustration from the perspective of Dominia_Yizkor during the quelling of Elru by the Solaris military, 6 years before the events of the game.
Fei_Fong_Wong, piloting the Weltall-id, gains the nickname 'Demon of Elru' during the operation when he destroys not only the nation of Elru but the Solaris army as well. Following the pictured event, Dominia, the sole survivor of Elru, is saved by Ramsus and fast-tracked into the elite Elements team.
Also, those that have played Xenogears would likely be interested in the supplemental Perfect Works artbook, recently translated into English for the first time.
This is one of those games that's so good it just depresses you... I feel so nostalgic and miserable when I think about the game. I played it over 3 times from the ages of 10-13.
Is Xenosaga as worth it? I tried playing the first one but eventually just got hooked to the card game lol.
Kinda. Personally I think Xenogears is overrated. Game is literally only half finished and most of the cast is worthless after they're first introduced.
Xenosaga, I think, successfully expands on Xenogears core themes, but it's different while being similiar that depending upon how much you liked the former, you might take offense.

True Xenogears was only half completed, but it was a revolutionary game none the less. It was the first 3d rotating world RPG that had so many deep themes and enough mechanics to keep it interesting through out.
For me, nothing has ever measured up to the experience of Xenogears. The gameplay was good, the soundtrack was excellent, and the story, present and past, always kept me interested. The characters were very diverse, relationships were well developed, and the bad guys were attacking each other as often as they were attacking you.
Xenosaga is a monumental disgrace to its predecessor. The gameplay is boring and the battle system is like Xenogears, but weaker. The soundtrack is good in some places, but mostly sucks (except Episode II). The story is okay, but lacks depth, despite its attempts to convince you otherwise, and feels nothing like Xenogears. The cast is like something out of a magical girl anime, their designs match that style. I love KOS-MOS, but come on - no fashion sense; and will someone please just shoot Jr.? As for bad guys, Albedo is fun, and LOL Gnosis; very original.
Xenosaga also ruined any chance to properly encompass the timeline by splitting into three episodes. Check seabook's charitable link for more details, but to sum it up those three (short) episodes should all have been Episode One. The series has lost a minimum of two well thought out time periods that will likely never see the light of day.
So yeah, great idea on Sony's part selling their title to Namco.

You take that back, the only good track from Episode 2 was the main title they had running in all the trailers, everything else was mostly by large an exercise in blandness :V.
The Episode 1 soundtrack OTOH was godly. But then again, it probably also had double the budget of both the EP2&3 OSTs put together, given they could afford The London Symphony Orchestra + a real choir for that one.
It's too bad Yasunori Mitsuda seems to have moved from game soundtracks onwards to greener pastures, though D:.
SERIOUSLY. You know, I'm going to go look for some now... I don't think anyone has ever created better mechas than the designers of Xenogears... Maybe Armored Core comes close, but that's about it.
Xenosaga was supposed to be 4 episodes anyway. And maybe its just me, but i would have waited the long wait for them to get the big budget for 2-3 and (4 if it got created). Xenosaga 1 was the only one i really liked. Not to mention the ending actually made me feel any sense of danger. then it just went downhill from there. Maybe my view on Xenosaga 1 is baised just a little bit, because i was waiting years for Xenogears to gets its prequal. I shated bricks when i got to the credits screen on Xenogears only to find out it was "Episode 5".
Ironically, the two gears look far more manacing just standing there compared to post #264722. Must be due to the darker colors and the perspective of a defenseless person at ground level.

Defensless? You fight against a boss that takes on gears when hes NOT in his own gear. And your own party can also fight gears while NOT being in their gear as well. Granted you'd have to level quite a bit, its a fun self challange.

Six. Just like Xenogears, just completely different content. You’re likely getting the four episode number from the fact that Episodes I and II were originally conceived as just Episode I, and Episode III was three episodes compressed into one. Regardless, six was the intended number.
