morgoth and fingolfin (tolkien's legendarium and 1 more) drawn by manuel_castanon

Artist's commentary

  • The last stand of the High King

Finally! Ever since reading the Silmarillion, the duel between Fingolfin and Morgoth has stuck in my mind, and I've always wanted to paint it.
But either due to lack of time, or want of skill, other pursuits, or all of the above I always put it off for later.
But no more! I throw my hat in the ring of the ever growing depictions of this mighty duel
and although Ted Nasmith's and John Howe's versions will always be the classic portrayals, I tried my best to give my own spin to it, and stick as close to the source (or I should say my interpretation of it) as I could.

    Hope you like it, cheers!

"The iron crowned is getting closer
Swings his hammer down on him
    Like a thunderstorm he's crushing
    Down the Noldor's proudest king"
