    It's a MiniDisc player, a successor to the Walkman that was made by Sony that ran (and could write to) smaller magneto-optical discs in cartridges no larger than 7cm. Due to its inherent proprietary nature, MD never took off, but it gained a niche following during its run, and blank discs are still made today.
