More power to the Moriyas! The treatment of the assistants might have something to do with the success rates. Or maybe it's just because the Moriya shrine actually has gods?

The Hakurei shrine seems to be dedicated to the miscellaneous Kami of Gensokyo and not any major gods in particular. That or it's dedicated to the gods worshiped by Youkai only. Makes you wonder what the previous Hakurei priests and Mikos did and if they were more successful.

If Mima was any indication, the Hakurei family was really loved and popular. And then it went downhill once Mima went all axe crazy. Reimu is a shell of the former Hakurei self.
Besides, from what information I can glean, the Hakurei Shrine lay at the far end of Gensokyo (right near its borders) while the Moriya Shrine lay right in Youkai Mountain, which is home to tengus. It seems to me that Reimu's place is less of a place of worship than a strategic gateway between Gensokyo and the outside world.

I would assume it's some what of a combination of worshiping all the general gods, and the god of boundaries... Or maybe just the "god of the Hakurei boundary", which is like the whole idea of a god for each tool or whatever it is. Or it could be dedicated to the Dragon Gods. No one knows exactly. It's probably left ambiguous for a reason XD
Let's just hope it's not Yukari's joke of trying to make herself a god.

Think somehow it is a combination of both.
It's a like a reflection on a mirror, with the image being reversed. Suwako being a good girl, and Suika not doing much of a job helping Reimu get people and hanging out at the wrong spot. One gets a pat, the other....uh...I wouldn't want to know.
finally! my favorite miko makes her appearance. of course, i'm referring to sanae. but the time i got into touhou, the demo for UFO was already out, so i didn't have years to adjust to reimu before sanae showed p. that gave me the opportunity to judge them both equally, and i decided i liked Sanae better.
