The hats are probably just artistic liscence. I love it when artist put their own spin on character designs. It really makes you tell that they drew it.

Hey, that was pretty well thought out.Basically, I used evergreen oak for the wood, composed of sixteen spokes (which is more than the norm), and sewed on a strengthened water-repelling material with a chainstitch! Thus, it's a strong umbrella, befitting a strong youkai such as yourself, who yields to no rain or wind! Yuuka's umbrella doesn't even begin to compare to this one!Shopkeeper!
