Nice.
I also like how everyone is jumping on the hate bandwagon for a single Touhou video appearing on CNN. It showed up because Bad Apple is an awesome video, not because of the series it's based on.
I highly doubt people who watch CNN are anime fans anyway.

As I understand it, people are either raging that CNN never actually stated what Touhou is or where Bad Apple came from, or they're raging about the possibility of Touhou becoming mainstream across seas.
recklessfirex said: I don't see why this would be rage-worthy.
They somehow think that by it becoming main stream that the series will suddenly become terrible and they won't be cool for liking it anymore or something.

It brings the "LOL KAWAII DESU" faggots on /jp/ and everywhere else, ranting about it like some kind of a new toy, not willing to go back until they annoy the shit out of everyone. /jp/ was nuked by the mods just to purge it of all the shitstorm that ensued.
Bad Apple was cool and everything, but underage faggots whose notion of art consists of Lucky Star and K-ON are the last thing you would want on a board that was even until now polluted by trolls and barely managed to maintain the last bits of quality.
Touhou is already mainstream. Everyone who is raging about this is ignoring the giant elephant in the middle of Tokyo Big Sight, because I'm willing to bet that at least a third of the established doujin artists on Danbooru have at least one Touhou image tagged under their name.
Still, I can understand why there are some people who would think that the growing fanbase is making Touhou worse, because Touhou in general has gotten worse ever since Imperishable Night, in that the games have yet to hit that same mark of quality, and from my experience, that's also when I began to notice generic-brand japanophiles begin to adopt Touhou as one of their obsessions.

I think SA was one of the best Windows games, both gameplay and music are awesome; that might be just me, though. But I'll have to agree on MoF (utter shit) and UFO (much worse than expected).
I agree that SA was excellent, MoF had good music but very 'surprising' changes in gameplay, UFO was disappointing, and, also, PoFV had Yuuka. Enough said.
I can't argue whether or not ZUN is affected by his growing fanbase, but I do know that it is growing very fast and that if ZUN is sensitive to his fanbase, there is room for concern.

Don't quote me on this or anything, but I've read something along the lines of ZUN not caring for the western Touhou fanbase.
The problem with the "newfag" panic people are worried about it that no where in the CNN video did they mention Touhou... just the Bad Apple PV itself. Whatever wave happened on any boards were just the work of trolls and overreacting fans.
In fact, if there is going to be any significant growth from all of this, chances are the fandom's terrible but lulzworthy reaction will have more influence over it than the video itself.
At best, the people who watched this are going to look up Bad Apple, say oh cool and then go on with their lives. At worse you'll have several newfags that get flamed to death and everyone will forget about them and this and the entire incident altogether, just like with the Skies Ablaze thing.

Apparently, some company or another approached him about an official English localization of Touhou games, and he said he wasn't interested. Still, I doubt it's a matter of him not caring for the Western fanbase as much as it is him not caring about the Western fanbase.

its a matter of him not wanting to give up control to someone else. same reason he doesnt take offers to make an anime, it would put things less in his direct control. he makes these primarily for his own lulz, and transferring any portion of rights just won't work for him.
if he really wanted to do something more, he's got enough connections in Taito that he would have been able to do it in a snap already.
No, the true touhou fans were raging because CNN said "This is how the video was made" with the stop-motion vid and that's completely wrong. The ones raging because they didn't mention Touhou is just newfags or wannabes.
Am I the only one raging because CNN are total fuck tards? No, I'm not talking about the fact that they didn't mention Touhou, I'm talking about the fact that the whole "news report" was fucked up. When the guy said "This is how they made it" made me rage more than anything. He even talked like he knew what he was saying.
