While environmental design for The Hobbit films was primarily the responsibility of the 3Foot7 Art Department, supervised by Production Designer Dan Hennah, early broad strokes environmental concepts were also created at Weta Workshop to support work being done at 3Foot7. The two companies and teams enjoyed a close working relationship. In some instances Weta Workshop Designers collaborated on the same pieces with 3Foot7 artists such as Concept Art Directors Alan Lee and John Howe.
