    Maybe Reimu just found the concept in an old book and decided to implement her own version.

    Kinda like how Intel tried to claim the invention of wireless energy transmission but it was copied from one of Tesla's old patents.

    A second theory the concept was lost to history and Reimu simply ended up reinventing it which has happen many times through out history.
    A good example would be the Antikythera mechanism which was lost to history and a similar devices were not invented again until the 19th century.
