I agree. I would guess Yuyuko, a ghost, would understand what Kogasa is desperately trying to do and helped her out.

Ghosts aren't supposed to bleed, so yeah logically a bleeding-ghost is pure terror to her I guess.
Yuyuko previously smiling would simply be fear induced dementia.
But of course the "Just as planned" case works too, cuz it's Yuyu-sama lol, and she just loves messing with Youmu.

But Yuyuko doesn't know Kogasa.
Unless she can read minds, or Hina told her everything, she wouldn't have done something like that. In-fact, I would imagine she would look at Kogasa, blink a few times and continue eating.

Isn't Yuyuko known for a deep, Zen-like insight beneath her perpetually hungry and bubbly surface? She might've been able to tell at a glance that Kogasa was desperate for a scare. I really think she was playing along.

Uh... my guess is that the smile was a bait-and-switch from the author, to make readers think that the comic's running gag was going to continue.

1. Canonically, Yuyuko is an air-headed,
cheerful, but *calm* personality. Not
likely to be scared shitless like that.
Besides, you don't take a break to make
a "phew" between someone scaring you and
you freaking out.

2. If a youkai appeared in front of you,
shouting "bero-bero-baa", even an idiot
would get the basic idea behind this.

3. Kogasa looks like the very embodiment
of despair and misfortune here. Yuyuko
feeling considerate for her wouldn't be
a surprise.

4. Notice that Yuyuko finished eating on
the last page. The smile speaks clearly,
it's "I'm full, so let's make fun out of
Youmu and/or help out this little sack
of despair."

Also note how Youmu, herself afraid of ghosts, seems to be relatively unphased.

Agreed ! That was the first thing that came to my mind. If Yuyuko was supposed to fake a scared reaction, I think the author would make something to make it more clear. The smile was more like a initial reaction of a fear despair to cause a comical effect in the sequence.

But I still side with Justy on this - if that's the case, then that's far too out of character for Yuyuko.

I'm more supporting of the bait and switch theory since Yuyuko might have actually puked the food out since Youmu is covered in it during the third panel. My reasoning behind this is because if someone gets "really" scared their body would puke out unprocessed food so that it can perform a more effective "fight or flight".

Yuyuko letting food go to waste against her will!?

1. Food
2. Everything else

honestly, i was expecting kogasa to just kicked around some more but im immensely glad that she actually succeeded, certainly makes all that build up more than worth it
