Unfortunately owls actually aren't very smart. Their eyes take up so much room in their heads that their brains are relatively small compared to their bodies, especially when compared to corvids or parrots which have a large brain compared to their bodies. They may be apex predators as a night hunter but their primary hunting method is "sit still and wait for movement" which doesn't take a whole lot of brain power.
