It is suggested to teach your baby sign language at like 4-8 months old. Notably they can be able communicate things like hungry, thirsty, play, etc. My understanding is it makes it significantly easier knowing what your baby wants.

She *was* able to parse the thoughts of unmodified dogs, even if they mostly thought about how they were big and strong and had big muscles.
