Why's she holding the sword wrong?

Just a guess, but perhaps she was originally resting the sword straight down. You'd get this position then simply by twisting the blade up to the side from that position. In short, going from one pose to another.

Or just maybe it's for the same reason her eye is on fire and she's got a crystal bird on her head: it just looks cool for the picture.
