Tokushima Prefecture's Provincial Cooperation Office (PCO) has made a poster to recruit personnel for the Self-Defense Forces for fiscal 2010. The poster was produced by animation production company Ufotable, Inc., an all-round picture production company that deals with animation etc. This company was responsible for the Tokushima City Awa Dance Festival posters, which became so popular that they attracted extensive newspaper coverage. The central motif of the poster is a member of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force WAF (Women of the Air Forces) wearing a summer uniform. It is hoped that this design choice will be attractive to junior high school, high school and university students, and prompt them to hang the poster on their walls. The member portrayed in the poster is a Staff Sergeant, which is a rank at which personnel are responsible for training juniors. This is a stage at which the job is becoming more interesting and personnel are developing a strong interest in their responsibilities. Presented alongside the advertising slogan, this choice enables the poster to nicely capture the feeling of personnel at this exciting stage of their careers. This slogan in particular could apply to any kind of job. It is a message that would move not only current SDF members but any business person who takes pride in his or her job. Through this poster we want to inform people about the attractive jobs that are available in the SDF. The poster will be gradually displayed on billboards at Tokushima PCO offices and on SDF billboards across Tokushima prefecture. It was also introduced in the social pages of Tokushima Shimbun’s morning edition on April 15, 2010, and there are plans to publish it on Ufotable’s website.
