I have the same feeling. They were my favorite characters out of Sketchbook

They look so... deadpan.

I also got that Sketchbook feeling. If it was intentional on the part of the author, he/she did a good job.

Why is it that all these standup comedy like 4koma involving the Aki sisters are so hard to understand or not understandable at all?

Language barrier, It would be like explaining the thyme - time pun to a Japanese person.

I think there needs to be a "lost in translation" pool.
