You probably mean U.C. Series is the best as it doesnt just end with Gundam. Then again, I sometimes hear people give Zeta gundam alot of flake for some reason.

LOL No, I mean U.C. Gundam is the best because it was THE FIRST. And experience shows that the first is always better.

That is the correct term, but as someone who only saw U.C. Gundam for the first time last year, I can say, without any bias or rose-tinted goggles: they really are a lot better than the newer shows, which ironically I should have rose-tinted goggles for, since I grew up with Toonami.

There can indeed sometimes be a nostalgia factor for older shows, but sometimes they are just objectively better as well. The original is actually a bit too dated for me to really enjoy while I can appreciate the plot it is quite frankly painful to look at, at times. The later series and OVA stuff with better animation though destroys most of the stuff from the last ten years pretty easily, which admittedly isn’t hard. The recent stuff has gotten progressively more and more nonsensical, outlandish, and convoluted and IMO more and more blatantly driven by marketing toys rather then actually telling a decent story.
People still watch the stuff based on the name, but if it keeps up like this I think it's headed for a Star Trek style crash and people eventually tire of poor writing and ludicrous plots.

Which is actually rather amusing because I've heard people compare Gundam to Star Trek for one reason or another.

Char's Counterattack does feel like Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, with the revenge aspect and all. I remember in the English dub of 0079 some of the characters refer to Bright Noa as 'Mr Bright'.
It's ironic, though, since ST is the UN in space whilst Gundam is a war epic.
The closest anime that can be compared to Star Trek is Space Battleship Yamato, IMO.
Universal Century in general is best timeline. 0079 and Zeta are great, Tomino IMHO is the only director that can make a great Gundam. Everything before Gundam SEED is better than SEED and afterward. But apparently ZZ sucks because the awesomeness that is the Zeta Gundam gets treated like crap by Judau before he moves on to his own MS.
U.C. Gundam may be pretty cool, but I personally prefer some of the newer series. Don't get me wrong, I like the U.C. as much as the next fan my age, but there's something about the new timelines that the U.C. just doesn't have. Maybe it's the fact that the Mobile Suits in Iron-Blooded Orphans can no-sell a beam attack.
