    "Daddy, come back safely..."

Upon receiving reports of a Borg invasion of Earth, Starfleet headquarters sends out an order for all starships to assemble. This includes the dispatching of the USS Oceano, NCC-1766, an old vessel that has just been newly renovated and refit. It leaves port headed to rally point in the Wolf 359 system.

    • I watched the Star Trek film and I thought that the climactic scene where the Enterprise engaged in an assault amid a barrage of phaser fire was very cool.

Jerry Goldsmith's original Star Trek: The Motion Picture theme (used as The New Generation's opening years later) banging in my ears while watching this...

Tagging again as Starbase 74. While I agree that technically it couldn't be that station because according to ST canon is located in another part of space away from Earth, the one depicted here looks just like the 74 in ST III: The Search for Spock.

    "Daddy, come back safely..."

(EDIT: Moved to Artist's commentary field)

Apparently, the registry number and name of the Constitution-class starship in the story is Inui's invention.

EDIT: In some Star Trek fanfiction and elsewhere in the franchise, the registry number NC-1766 appears as the USS Kestral, USS Aurora, or URR Lemuria.

A slight correction: This line translates to "Daddy, come back safely..."

Starbase 74 wasn't in Search for Spock, but Earth Spacedock was, and I'm pretty sure 74 was modeled after Spacedock. Changing the tag...

Oh, boy, I hope this doesn't dissolve into a back-and-forth argument... We do that enough times with Touhou on Danbooru, I don't want to end up doing that with Star Trek!

The in-universe explanation is that Starbase 74 and Spacedock are the same class of station (though it hasn't yet been named on screen as yet; IIRC Jackhill's Reference sheets call it the Ournal-class). As for why Tarsas III looks like Earth, that's simple: footage from Star Trek III was re-used for 11001001, with the simple difference of the 1701-D docking instead of the 1701 (according to Memory Alpha, the D was simply superimposed over the 1701 in the VFX editing room; reason for the footage re-use was simple: TNG's VFX budget, while obviously being higher than that of TOS, didn't allow for new footage to be created at that point in the series run). The Star Trek Encyclopedia explained this away as Tarsas III being a very 'Earth-like' planet (complete with a moon).

So this would be an attempt to explain the infamous refit Connie wreckage at the Wolf 359 graveyard...

And would that qualify this for the Harsher In Hindsight pool?

I guess it would. Added it to that pool.

I don't think this image is intended to be about Wrath of Khan, especially per the artists commentary. I'll delete the Enterprise and Reliant tags, as neither ship is explicity identified here.
