It doesn't help that there are like 10 event Pokemon now.
Also regarding 3rd gen when it started you could only get the ones in Ruby and Sapphire, had to wait until those lousy Game Cube games and the 1st gen remakes to get the old ones back. I'm still bitter about that.
Some of these new ones give me a Paul Robertson vibe. Then there's others, like the very last one, that look like something out of a Ninja Turtles game.

Let's count them. Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Keruido, Melodia, and Genosekto. Also event only are Phione, Zorua, and Zoroark. However, since all three can be bred, they may or may not count. Thus, counting all of them, there is a grand total of FIFTEEN Pokemon only acquirable from events. Gotta buy an Action Replay sounds more like it.
Well figures, I was just a bit too lazy to count. It's also worth noting that the Regi trio in Platinum requires an even Regigigas but you can just transfer over some from third gen so it doesn't really count. Also there are the Rotom forms which are events...
