Good writing, certainly. Good translation? When you're to the point of changing a onomatopoeia for swishing arms into a pastiche of 50s Brooklyn slang, calling it translation gets a little dicey.

Translation is writing, in my philosophy. Someone translating a medical textbook, say, or a technical manual, would be expected to have some expertise in the book's respective field; so, someone translating a creative work should have to be creative in doing so.

Though even with that said, that note was one I threw in purely for my own amusement. The SFX is a demonstration of Suwako's frustration, so while it's not quite at the "making shit up" level, I'll admit it's within spitting distance. I didn't really expect it to be kept, and I certainly didn't expect to be praised for it (not that I don't appreciate the compliment).

You certainly have a point, but within limits, I've no problem with some interpretation worked into a translation, so long as it remains within the proper spirit of the original. Instead of incoherent, frustrated ranting, it becomes coherent, frustrated ranting. YMMV, obviously, and I don't begrudge anyone who wants to stick closer to the original style.

Because frist I think I read it as 'Ii--doi--yaa'. Then Tetrominon wrote it "I'll moidalize ya!'. I was confused until I read your post just now.
