I meant a railing to hold on to to keep balance as you ascended / descended. On a grade that steep, balance would be tricky and a fall could be deadly.

Yeah, I know that's what you meant. I'm just pointing out that there's one in the stairway for god knows why... This picture is just too weird.
Ow wow! This scenery makes me nostalgic of wher my uncle lived, and the stairs are really the same in that it has no guard rails although the steps there are more uneven than here.
